Waiting on Wednesday (2): Muse and Reverie by Charles de Lint

Wednesday, December 2, 2009

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases we're eagerly anticipating.

Release Date: December 8, 2009
Synopsis from the Tor Forge website: Muse and Reverie is an all-new collection of short fiction in Charles de Lint’s “Newford” universe—the fifth such collection since 1993, and the first since 2002. Previous collections are Dreams Underfoot, The Ivory and the Horn, the World Fantasy Award-winning Memory and Dream, and Tapping the Dream Tree.
The city of Newford could be any city in North America, bursting with music, commerce, art, love and hate, and of course magic. Magic in the sidewalk cracks, myth at the foundations of its great buildings, enchantment in the spaces between its people. In this new collection, de Lint explores that magic and those spaces, shedding new light on the people and places that readers of novels like
Moonheart, Forests of the Heart, The Onion Girl, and The Mystery of Grace have come to love.

Charles de Lint is my absolute favorite author, and I didn't even realize he has a new short story collection coming out until Miss Eliza mentioned it in passing over at strange and random happenstance. I love his characters, especially my old friends in Newford, and it's been a while since he revisited them. I'm so excited I can't stand it! Plus, look at that gorgeous cover. I adore the covers John Jude Palencar does for de Lint's work. I don't know for sure that this is a Palencar cover, but it sure looks like one to me.

Stop by Charles de Lint's website. It looks like you can read one of the stories, "A Crow Girls Christmas", over there. I want to wait until I have the book in my hands to read the story, but I love the Crow Girls, and it looks like everyone's best friend, Jilly Coppercorn, puts in an appearance.

T minus 6 days and counting...

What are you waiting on this week?
