Google+ The Introverted Reader: Jane in June Giveaway Announcement!

Jane in June Giveaway Announcement!

Thursday, May 27, 2010

Misty at Book Rat is hosting Jane in June, a celebration of all things Jane Austen. Well, we all know that Jane wrote tons of great characters, so it seems natural to tie Jane in June in to my Character Connection meme!

The short version:
  • Contest begins Thursday, June 3
  • Write a post (non-bloggers can use each week's comments) about how much you love (or even love to hate) an Austen character
  • Link up to my Character Connection post
  • You must link to my blog in your post and mention Character Connection
  • You'll gain an entry every week you do this, for a max of 4 entries
  • Two winners will be chosen using
  • Contest ends at midnight EDT on June 29
  • There are two prize packs to choose from
  • You are eligible to win if you're over the age of 13 and if Book Depository ships to you
Please do write a meaningful post.  It doesn't have to be a novel, but "I love Mr. Darcy!" just won't cut it when compared to people who write thoughtfully about why he's a great character.  I'm not a toughie, so use your best judgment on this one.

There won't be any forms to fill out or anything. I'll track it through the links.  Just make sure I can contact you through your blog or your profile.

If you haven't read any Austen, but you think you'd like to at least give her a try, this is a good time to get started!  The contest runs for about a month, so you have plenty of time to read one of her novels and write a post!

There are two prize packs up for grabs, and if Book Depository ships to you, you're eligible to win.  That's as international as I can be without breaking the bank!

The first will be for Jane Neophytes. It will include:

    • This paperback edition of Persuasion
    • A Jane Austen Journal (the quote on the cover says, "We have a better guide in ourselves, if we would attend to it, than any other person can be.")
    • This cute button.

The second will be for Janeites.  This one will include:

Can you tell I'm a Persuasion fan?

Start planning those posts!  The contest will begin next Thursday, June 3rd!

Be sure to follow along at Book Rat all next month too. She has tons of great posts and giveaways lined up! Okay, you really should follow her anyway because she's one of my favorite bloggers, but definitely follow her next month if you're an Austen fan.

    1. This is a cool idea for a giveaway, Jen! I'll have to start thinking...

    2. First of all, you made me feel all squoshy... ^_^

Also, you didn't tell me the notepads were designed to look like DANCE CARDS! That's BRILLIANT!
I'm still trying to figure out my CCs for the month (yep, that will definitely be a feature each week). I can't decide between the obvious or the minor characters, or something different all together. I think I might divide it into segments, actually.

    3. I have read all of Jane Austen's books but most of them go back to my school days and shortly thereafter.

And no I won't tell you how long ago that was ! LOL !

So I can't really write on a favourite character.

However I was given one of the mash-ups that have come out recently so I have been scratching for any copies of the originals and plan to re-read them all.

Winning the newbie book would certainly help.

Tanks for the giveaway and for opening it up to worldwide entries.

    4. I'm so doing this! I think I'll do a character I really can't stand. We tend to be more passionate and clever in our dislikes than in our likes.

    5. I just made my first post and I hope to make another before the deadline! This contest is FABULOUS!! I am DEFINITELY a Janeite, so I hope I win that prize pack! :D DANCE CARD NOTEPADS?!?!? I love it!

    6. I'm glad you like the prizes I chose! Those dance card notepads are great, aren't they?

    7. I think it's a great idea for your giveaway the dance card type items especially. Especially since I've never seen one or had one before myself. My character would be Harriet Smith in Persuasion. Persuasion is my favorite novel. The way Jane Austen describes her is incredible in Vol.2, chapter 5 Penguin Version page 144 on. "Neither the dissipations of the past and she had lived very much in the world, nor the restrictions of the present; neither sickness nor sorrow seemed to have closed her heart or ruined her spirits." How many of us could say that about ourselves? It goes on pg 145 she has an "elasticity of mind and a disposition of turning from evil to good" etc. Such a definition of an ancillary character that most don't pay attention to.

    8. This is a good idea for a giveaway. I was thrilled to write about my love for Edmund Bertram. :)

Thanks for taking the time to comment! Have a great day!
