Google+ The Introverted Reader: Reading Rendezvous

Reading Rendezvous

Sunday, June 20, 2010

I am blessed to live in a beautiful part of the world and to have the opportunity to visit other beautiful places fairly frequently. I've decided to feature locations that I find, either at home or on vacation, that are just asking me to grab a book, settle in and get reading!  This will be an irregular feature, but when I have a photo, I'll post it on Sunday.  Thanks to my sister for putting this button together for me!
Biltmore Estate

This week's photo was taken at the Biltmore Estate, the "French chateau" George Vanderbilt built in the Blue Ridge Mountains. You're probably going to have to click on the picture to see exactly what a gorgeous location this is. If you're ever around Asheville, NC, you should stop by and see it!

My husband and I love to go here on lazy Sunday afternoons and wander around. There's the Biltmore House itself, gorgeous gardens, a winery, restaurants, bike and horse paths, I could go on and on.  This was taken at the lagoon, a great place to have a picnic--or read, as you can see! In this photo, I'm reading Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.  After he took the picture, my husband pointed out that it looks a lot like my blog button, and he's right!

Have you ever visited the Biltmore Estate?  What did you think?

  1. Idyllic, gorgeous and such a perfect reading spot!

  2. What a great idea Jen; it looks like a peaceful place to read (I've never been there though).

  3. I had the opportunity to visit the Biltmore Estate last year when I was taking summer classes at UNC Asheville. It is indeed beautiful, and if I lived closer, I would love to read there each and every Sunday afternoon.

  4. What a GORGEOUS spot! I'm so jealous that you live so close! This picture is breathtaking :)

  5. This is a gorgeous reading spot!!! I mean - wow!! Really beautiful, serene, idyllic and just perfect.

  6. My favorite place in the Biltmore estate is the library! It is a fantasy come true, and I love looking at the books knowing that Edith Wharton (among others) must have read and handled some of those books. The underground bowling alley and swimming pool are pretty cool, too;)

  7. Wow! That looks like the perfect place to read! So scenic and beautiful!!

  8. I've never been to Biltmore Estate, but it looks like a place I would enjoy!

  9. I'm glad you all like it!

Bibliophiliac, that library is gorgeous. It seems a shame that all those books are behind ropes where we can't get to them. When I go in there, I want to re-enact that scene from Beauty and the Beast where Belle is swinging around the bookshelves on the ladders!

  10. Haha Jen! Love your comment above acting out that scene :0)

I have been to the Biltmore a few times - but I've never gotten beyond the estate and immediate garden grounds. I would love to spend time at that lagoon. It is such a picture perfect view I'm not sure if I could tear my eyes away and focus on my book!

Thanks for taking the time to comment! Have a great day!
