Jilly, my new nook
My new nook!  Yay!  Isn't she pretty?

I was hoping to get one for my birthday but that didn't happen.  I was almost maxed out on my vacation time, so I sold some of it, had a little extra cash on my hands, and decided that a nook was exactly what that money needed to buy.  If I can't use my vacation time for days off, I might as well use it for something fun!  And with our big vacation to Spain coming up in October, this will save some weight from all those books I tend to pack in my luggage!  LOL!  My husband actually came up with that excuse.  He's such an enabler.

I'm slowly learning my way around, but I really like it so far.  I'm busily shopping around for a cover.  There are a few I like on B&N but there are also some I like on Etsy.  The agony of decision-making!

I'm mostly poking around in the free e-books right now while I'm learning the ropes, but once I get the hang of things, I would love to start sharing with other nook owners!  How many of you are out there?  Any tips for a newbie?

Oh, and the name?  Jilly Coppercorn from Charles de Lint's Newford books.  She's my best character "friend!

  2. Oh, I am SO jealous! I'm still debating whether I want a Nook or not, so I'd love to hear about your adventures (good OR bad) with it. Happy reading!

  3. I really like the way your husband thinks;)

My mom took pity on me and bought me a Kindle for an early birthday gift, but it is backordered. ARGH.

I say go for etsy for the cover, you want Jilly Coppercorn to stand out and be proud!

  7. Thanks, everyone!

Gwen, I was surprised to walk into my local B&N and buy it. I thought I had to order it online. I'm all about the instant gratification though. I hope yours arrives soon!

I've emailed someone about a cover on Etsy. I'm hoping she can add some pockets to it.

Jo, I rarely find anyone who's read de Lint, so I'm glad you know Jilly!

  9. Wowie! I don't think I'll ever be able to bring myself to get an e-reader of any sort. The only one I've used is my boss's ereader to read manuscripts at work.
But you're going to Spain?!?!?! What a fantastic trip destination. What parts of Spain are you going to? I went there for 10 days my senior year in high school and we did 5 cities in that time frame. I think Granada was my favorite stop, where the Alahambra is, and with its orange trees growing everywhere on the streets! Oh, truly a great place to visit! I hope you have a wonderful time there!

  10. Hey, I got a new nook this weekend too!! Mine's name is Jackson "Jack" Fitzgerald Owens. I am totally in love with mine. Check out The Book Depository for lots of free ebooks too. They have over 11,000 and tons of classics. Enjoy!

  11. AH! That is so awesome! Lucky dog. A couple of friends just got them, and I haven't cause I'm still sorta torn on the whole thing, but apparently you can "lend" books on the Nook? That's swaying me a bit...

  13. I love the nook so much! I recommend this cover because it makes the nook SO easy to slip in your purse and disguise your reading in a journal-like book .. Great for hiding what you're doing during boring meetings. *cough*

  14. Congratulations!! Woohoo!!

Hobbes (my nook) agrees she is beautiful! He is winking at her, and wondering whether she is free this Saturday, as he wants to ask her out. ;-)
