Google+ The Introverted Reader: Readathon Starting Line

Readathon Starting Line

Saturday, October 9, 2010

It's Readathon day!  The time zone thing is confusing me, so I'll just say that I'm starting at 7:00 am Madrid time and I'll be reading until 10 pm Eastern time when I finally get home. I'll probably be reading a lot of short stories on my nook, just so I can feel like I'm making some progress. Unfortunately, I will have very little control over my snacks since I'll be on a plane and at the mercy of the attendants.  Send some mental chocolate chip cookies my way!

Good luck to everyone who's participating!

And one more time, here's my husband's cheer:

Pick up a book!
Read it front to back!
If you get a little tired,
Scarf down a snack!

  3. You can be the first beneficiary of my (non)traditional Buddhist readathon blessing:

Just as the books fill the shelves,
Pile together on the floor and stack up on the table
So may the joy of the readathon
Flow forth to brighten your day and lift your spirit.
Books already read, books in progress and books yet to be read.

By the power of every word on the page
    May your book be delightful,
    As scary as Lovecraft’s Cthulhu
Or as sweet as a box of See’s candy.

Let the power of the images evoked by words
Keep you stay awake long through the night
    May no obstacle impede
    Your day filled with books.

For all of those who are reading today
Who follow in the path of Dewey
May your day be filled with the four blessings
Of fabulous books, tasty snacks, comfy chairs and joy.

  4. There's no way I can top Softdrink's words above, so all I'll say is that it sure would be confusing (time-wise speaking) if one was doing the Read-a-Thon on a plane! :)

    Happy Read-a-Thoning!

  10. Have you eaten yet? (you should)
Have you had enough to drink (this is a must)
Have you put enough coffee/sugar into your day yet? (this is necessary)

::grin:: I am about to install more sugar into the system now...oh ya!

  11. Ok I can't compete with your husband's (awesome!) cheer, but here's a limerick for inspiration:

I hope that your day's going well,
That the books you are reading are swell.
    A day for just reading
    (and mild competing)
Will do us all good, I can tell!

    Have fun!!
