Readers' Workouts

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

Hosted at Joy's Book Blog every Tuesday, Readers' Workouts gives us a chance to motivate each other and stay accountable to ourselves.

I haven't posted one of these in a while, and if you're a regular reader of my blog you know that's because of changes at work. I'm getting my feet back under me now. Fortunately, even though I neglected my little piece of the internet, I did stay on track pretty well with my workouts.

Last week, I made it to Pilates twice.  I was afraid that would be too much, but it actually felt "good" to work out my core like that.  I can feel marked improvements, even if I don't see a whole lot of definition.  There is a tiny bit though, if you know where to look!

I'm still working my way through the Couch to 5K training, and I'm having a hard time with the interval I'm on right now. My sister has joined me though, so it's nice to have company in my misery!  After watching the Olympics so much, I have a mental picture to spur myself on when I get tired: Carmelita Jeter. Not that I want to be particularly fast, or even have muscles as well-defined as hers, but I have to admire her. Holy cow. If I could get just a tenth of that definition, I'd be happy! So when I'm struggling up a hill on our local walking/running trail, I think of Carmelita and dig down and push myself at least a few more feet along. Hey, whatever works right?

On Saturday, my sister, my husband and I went hiking for the afternoon. We did several trails around a popular area off the Blue Ridge Parkway, Linville Falls. Most of them were pretty easy, but we finally decided to hike down to the base of the waterfall, and we definitely broke a sweat on that one.

How are your workouts coming along?

I have an affiliate relationship with Malaprop's, my local independent bookstore located in beautiful downtown Asheville, NC; and Better World Books. I will receive a small commission at no cost to you if you purchase books through links on my site.

  1. Cool that your workouts didn't suffer even though your blog did -- I'm making the same choice right now. Blogs will wait.

The female athletes were definitely an inspiration.

  2. Hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains sounds absolutely wonderful! I'm also a big fan of Pilates, although I haven't taken that in a while. I used to go to an instructor privately and we would use all the machines. I now take Hot Yoga on nights when I'm not running; a room at 110 degrees really does get the muscles limber!

Carmelita Jeter just rocked it. She was awesome to watch, along with all the other lovely ladies!

  3. When I did couch to 5 k I stayed on some weeks for some extra time if it felt really difficult to me. You'll be able to do it all soon.

  4. I admit it, I envy the hiking part of your week more than the Pilates! good job.
